Hi Angela

My Uncle died in a mental care hospital and the hospital I have been in contact with have been very helpful and have referred me to the National Archives as the hospital where my Uncle was only has a record of his name written in pencil and no further information, I am in the UK.

Back in those days people were put into institutions which were called mental asylums (please do not be offended by this information) and people were not allowed to visit them I hope this information helps you. I have yet to contact the National Archives but I think it is going to be difficult to find out further information.

Good Luck.

Darkie

Hi Angela,
I think its very likely. Its a very old building and stil in use. The register for births, deaths & marriages is in this building too.
Lots of luck.
