Madmeg Report 28 Mar 2008 22:51

My gg grandfather was supposedly born Llanasa, Flintshire around 1840, son of Peter a Quarryman. I cannot find him or Peter in 1841, 51, 61, or 71. The only birth I have found, after extensive searching at records offices, is that of John Davies, born 1/12/1840 to Peter Davies, collier and Ann, nee Vaughan.

He first turns up with my gg grandmother in 1881 in Glossop, Derbyshire, both pretending to be married, but she was a widow and I don't know about his status. In 1890 they marry in Stockport, Lancashire, presumably cos they don't want anyone to know they were not already married, both widow/widower on the marriage certificate, and in 1899 John dies in Glossop, aged 58.

Can anybody help please?

Margaret
