Alfred Holland/s was born in c1847 (still cannot find his birth cert but have traced his sisters cert) in Middlesex Whitechapel/ Borough Surrey (from census returns)
His parents were James Hollands & Emma Davis. James was born in Greenwich and Emma in Hayes, Kent.
My problem is that the only children with James and Emma in the 1861 census is Eliza aged 11 and Frederick aged 5 they were living at 9 Pleasant Row, Bermondsey.
I cannot find the rest of the family although I suspect that they were by then married etc but Alfred would have been only about 13/14 so where is he.
Alfred dropped the s on Holland by the time of the 1881 census.
I also cannot find Alfred on the 1871 he had a daughter b c1869 named Matilda born in Deptford and another daughter Louisa born in Jan 1971 in Greenwich and his wife was called Matilda Barrett. (I have Louisa’s birth cert) 1871 he is a Carman
Alfred was on later census as a Bricklayer labourer and General Labourer.
I would be so grateful if anyone can help me find him or them on the 1861 and 1871 census.
Hope this all makes sense!!
Thanking you
Chris

Thanks Margaret
It is that darn S again. I did look again before I posted this request. But obviously not good enough. I think sometimes you cant see the wood for the trees.
Lets hope someone has similar luck with the 1861.
Thanks again
Chris
