I'll have to look that one up on the map, Dee - can't say I've heard of Peel Green - yet! Chatburn's just past Clitheroe - a bit further along on the A671, I think.

Added a few more today, since the weather's nice - Atkinson, Bailey, Battersby, Briggs, Broome, Brown, Chatburn, Dugdale, Embley, Frankland, Freeman, Hargreaves, Hatfield, Hawkwood, Hinchcliffe, Holden, Holgate, Hudson, Isherwood, Johnson, Lee, Master, Mercer, Monk, Nutter, Pinder, Robinson, Smith, Spencer, Waite, Watson, Webster and Wilson.

I'm in the middle of doing today's lot but there are Tomlinson, Dixon, Hall, Highton, Hornby, Frankland, Parkinson, Hopkinson, Chatburn, Strickland, Robinson and Hanson to come.

Oh, thank you, Dea! I meant to try to finish them today - I could have got it done, really, but it is so cold outside today! I'm going to keep at it till it's finished, though . . .

Thanks, Dea. It's much appreciate - I went to Chatburn yesterday to do some more recording but it was so cold I could only stand it for about half an hour. (Went to give blood the other day but I got a cold on Easter Sunday from standing outside at a craft fair all day and the nurse told me to come back when my cold goes away! I don't want to make it worse.)

I never realised till I started doing it how worn away gravestones can get - slate and sandstone seem to be the worst because they either chip or get smoothed and weathered so the writing is impossible to read.

I actually was inspired by finding a website about a village where my great-grandma came from - someone had taken the time to type out about 200 years of christenings, marriages and burials from the parish records.

The only thing I keep having to check is whether it comes up when you search with a search engine.

Hi Kate,

Wrong part of Lancashire for me I am afraid but had a look at your site and just wanted to say - Well Done !!

You have obviously put a great deal of time and effort into this and there is a great deal of information on there which will be very useful to many people.

Best regards,

In case it's any help, I've been transcribing the gravestones in the churchyard at Christ Church in Chatburn. I'm only about half way through so far but what I have got is on this page:
