oh dear.... Thanks for taking a look.
So we all agree that it is not normal to include information like that on a marriage cert? Interesting though that it has been in this case. I still have to do some investigating on this one I think.

Hi Shiona,

Got the image but as you only sent me a section I didn't have much to compare the handwriting.

I have to say though, to me it looks very much like 'cousin of John Taylor'

The year of the marriage is 1867.

It would not be mentioned on the GRO certificate. However, the parish registers may tell a different tale, depending on the vicar.

Hi,

If you would like a second opinion as to what it says on the cert - I would be happy to take a look for you to see if I can help.

I will PM my e-mail address.

What could it possibly say?! I am totally intrigued!

Yes, I guess it would be strange to enter this kind of information onto the cert. The other thing is she is 27 and he is 21 which is interesting.

I think we all have oodles of marriage certificates where the bride was pregnant but I've never seen it mentioned on the certificate.

Hi, has anyone come across a marriage cert where the wife to be has been pregnant at the time of marriage? Is the fact that she is pregnant entered onto the marriage cert? I have found a marriage cert where I think this might be the case. The woman in question is noted as a spinster, but in brackets there is some text I cannot read. The part I can read says " ..... of John Taylor". The grooms name is John Taylor so it got me to thinking maybe she was pregnant with his child or something and this was entered onto the marriage cert. The missing word looks like it could be "expecting" which doesnt make sense. It also looks like it could say "cousin..." which would be too wierd!! Any ideas anyone?
