If you export your gedcom from FTM and then upload that to tribal pages it should be ok.

No Mary, I was exporting from GR to my e address then sending it to TP.

I will try sending it via FTM. this evening.

thanks

Nothing wrong with TP - are you uploading your FTM tree to TP?

I do that regularly, and I haven't had any date problems.

Thank you everyone.

Elva, that´s exactly what I did! I thought I could keep updating it every month with what I had added to GR, but no way can I keep changing the date each time.

Is there an accepted date format genealogists use?

Glen and Mary I do have FTM and have my tree on there imported from GR (no probs with dates there)but I wanted to have a website where my family can access free of charge. (some of them arn´t really interested in Gen but want to know what´s going on family wise photos etc)

I thought TP was the answer.

I have just seen on an old thread advising to make a website through FTM. since starting this thread I have tried to do that, but I can´t see how to let my family in to see it as it doesn´t tell you what your personal website address is. And editing it is abit strange too.

I am off to bed now but will look in in the morning.

Ditto what Mary says above. GR use the oldest GEDCOM format they think they can get away with (and it just useless).

GR falls short in the following areas.

1 Your tree ISN'T secure here
2 You need to be online to do anything with your tree
3 If a server fails or there is a security issue then your tree can vanish instantly.
4 You cannot easily share just bits and pieces of info, it is "all or nothing" with the GR system
5 Your tree ISN'T secure here
6 GR is an expensive site compared to the one off price of a programme
7 GR tree builder doesn't have the range of ways to create reports, record sources, add images etc.
8 You have no control over your tree, relying on a third party to store, display and keep your tree info is asking for trouble.

I could go on to add another 20 reasons but you get the idea. Get a programme and use that as your master tree, safe, secure and under YOUR control.

The GR software is full of glitches.

Your best bet is to get your own family tree software like PAF (free) or FTM (very cheap), and export your GR tree to it.

That way you're in control.

last month I imported GR tree to Tribal pages and many dates appeared as 2008. I went right through them changing them all. I´ve just imported again from GR and the same thing has happening.

I feel it is something with how I enter in the date info into GR. but I don´t know what is the correct way to do it so that it will import with the correct dates.

Hope someone knows what I mean, as I can´t spend hours going through changing dates every time I import.

Is there some sort of gen date system I should know about? Could anyone write me an example which would be acceptable to all programs?

Thank you.
