i know nancy can be a name in its own right but could it also be used for the name Ann ??

I have come across that in my tree, My Nancy switches between Nancy and Ann quite a lot

I have a sister Ann and we call her Nancy, guess what she is Irish.

I always thought my Grandma's name was Nancy but her real name was Annie. She was born in Ireland.
