I have the marriage cert of my great aunt. She married a PETER CARNEY in 1891.

On the marriage cert he is recorded as being 23 years old. (1869) His occupation is "Carter"

His father is EDWARD CARNEY, a labourer

He is not on the 1901 census with his wife and she is recorded as being "Carters widow" (well that is what it looks like)

I have made contact with someone on GR who also has the name CARNEY in her tree and she is asking me for further info re. PETER CARNEY, but I have no knowledge of him other than the marriage cert.

How would I go about finding him in the 1891 census when i do not know where he was born etc.?????

I do feel a headache comeing on!!!!!!!!!

PETER CARNEY and MARY ELLEN ROBERTS were married in the Parish Church of Liverpool on 19th march 1892.

The residence at the time of marriage was, Brownlow Hills, Liverpool for Peter and Mount Plesant for Mary Ellen.

I have looked at the witnesses, but again, as I have no other info other than their names, I have not had much luck. The witnesses were:-

James Gorton and Mary Galvin.

The name of Carney is very Irish, but I have nothing on Peter other than the info on marriage cert.

Hi Claire,

I found those two and dismissed the sailor one but thought about the 18 year old one as his occupation is right, ie a carter.

But on the marriage cert it states that Peter was 23 years old. I could see him "fibbing" a little bit on age but not 5 years.

The sad thing is, my granddad left Liverpool about 1890 and never returned there, and as far as I am aware, he never said anything about his family up north. Everything that I have managed to piece together has taken me 3 years of very hard slog, as there is no one who could give me even the slightest clue.

Hi Claire,

Just had a thought.....The name of the people he is lodging with is Roberts, thats the name of Mary Ellen.

This Edward Roberts is not her father as he was called John, but I will do some digging around to see if he may have been an uncle of Mary Ellen.

Thanks for your help it is much appreciated.
