My Grandmothers 1st husband was killed in WW1 he had been discharged earlier in the war but had gone back for some unknown reason and then got killed on the 1st July 1916 i found all his papers in the pension info it even told me about his personal belongings that were sent to my Grandmother his hairbrush and a spoon, so sad.Maybe its because he was discharged and then signed back up that all his info is there.

He wouldn't be in the pension records as he was killed in action.

He should also be on the Soldiers Died in the Great War CD. May be available at your local Archives or Local History library.

Hi Ann,

The surname was WHITTAKER which I believe isn't on Ancestry yet.

What was his name? His records if they have survived may still be at the National Archives. Not all are on Ancestry as yet.

My great grandfather died in 1917 during WW1. I know he was a member of the 4th Bn North Staffordshire Regt and that he was killed in action. I have only managed to get his medal card from the national archives as I am unable to locate his service records.
I have also found out the details of his grave from the Commenwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). Is anyone able to suggest an avenue to check out in order to find out further details regarding him?
