I scan and save in TIFF format, this way the scan can be post processed as necessary without loss of detail. Any copies sent out by e-mail go in maximum quality JPEG.

Hi Sunseeker

I have scanned lots of old pics in JPG format which have come out fine. I only have one in TIFF format which my son copied for me. It does look a little sharper than the JPG but not much.

The one I have in TIFF format took 82,920 KB compared to 90 KB for the same picture in JPG.

Most of the pictures that I have scanned I have e-mailed to relatives and JPG is better for this.

Can any member advise the best way to scan and save family photo's?

Some say you should use JPEG at the highest resolution because you lose some of the original each time the photo is copied, or passed on.

Others say TIFF format - this way the original is preserved, but it uses more space.

Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.
