Would it be possible for there to be more than one census record for a particular address?

Maybe two different parts of the house maybe where the servants are concerned?

Just curious because the father wasn't on the census with his family, doing a search for him I may have found him at the same address but on a different census with another chap. Could this be right do you think?

Hello again Gypsy - usually all the inhabitants of a house were listed underneath each other, whether they were related or not. In those days a lot of houses were inhabited by several families all under the same roof.

If you want to post the details so we have a better idea of what you mean we might be able to figure it out for you - willing to have a look as I'm not busy at the mo.

Thanks Athena,

I have Clara Davis (born circa 1851)and her three Children Alfred (circa 1874), Dinah (circa 1875) and Louisa (circa 1880) all residing at 11 Hobart Place, Chelsea in 1881, Clara was a domestic servant.

Alfred her husband is not listed with them. I have two different birth years for him one being 1837 the other 1845/6 sorry not sure which. I'm guessing the latter is the correct one due to Clara's DOB. I have him also being in the Scots Greys but that could have later been his son, though it is said he was in the Army, so I really don't know.

Any help very much appreciated.
