Mary Hooton is on Cheshire bmd under Hyde, Thameside.
www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg doesn't list Woodley - but is usually a good way of finding out.

Hi,

If you think it would help, I would be happy to have a look at the cert for you and see if I can come up with anything? - Sometimes a second pair of eyes can help.

I will pm you my email just in case you want to send a copy but I will not be offended if not.

Sorry - don't know that area too well - would have thought it would be Stockport. There is a way to find out - I read a thread recently - will have a look for it now.

In the 1851 census there is a Mary Hooton born Woodley. Is the name anything like that?

I'd ring up the GRO (or the register office) where you bought the certificate and ask them to decipher it for you. They are pretty good at helping and are more used to reading poor copies.

Oops back again

Christine don't suppose you know what area Woodley would come under in 1841 do you.

Might be Hyde but then again could be Stockport.

Going back to Cheshire BMD to see if I can find answer there.

If you go to Cheshire bmd and put in the details of the person whose certificate you have just got it will show the maiden name (assuming they are also from Cheshire!)

Tried searching Mary ***ton but ancestry don't like that.
