Hi,

I can help with this problem, you'll need to go into Control Panel, then Internet Options then look for Browsing history. You will see that just below the word Browsing history are two buttons, DELETE or SETTINGS. If you press delete it will clear all the cookies that get stored on your computor BUT it will also clear your temp. files, browsing history and saved passwords that may be stored. This means next time you log on to say Genes Reunited you will need to enter your username and password again. Hope this helps as this uses up virtual memory and eventually causes the computer to slow dramatically.

Regards Julie

David,

I have also not been able to enter name corrections.

So that is 3 problems I have on Ancestry since they added the new search facility.

Just sent them an email but I bet I get the standard reply

Have had no problems for the past 2 days, beyond not being able to post a comment on a census return (haven't been able to ever since day 1). Had all manner of problems recently viewing BMD quarter images, but no screen freezing.

I don't use Norton, so perhaps that is where the issue lies. I don't use IE explorer or Firefox either.

Hi Julie, are you using Norton Anti Virus ?

You got the standard reply from Ancestry.

They never acknowledge that just sometimes the problem could be with the site.

All my problems such as images not loading and error processing message have only started since they put on the new search facility - that only appeared as an option for me a couple of days ago. Too much of a coincidence.

Just successfully cleared my cookies and it still freezes. So don't bother with that one.

(At least I now know how to do it)

Thank you both will give it a go now. Not too good with computers so thank you both so much.

Emptying cookies to me is eating all the chocolate digestives before the kids.

Hi Julie

Go to START then click on CONTROL PANEL
You will see INTERNET OPTIONS click on that. You will then see on the GENERAL Tab BROWSING HISTORY. You select DELETE and it will take you to where you can delete your COOKIES

Hope you understand my instructions

On the screen when you start up, you have an "Internet Explorer" icon. Right click and left click on "Properties"

On "Browsing History" left click delete. That brings a menu up.
Delete temporay files every few weeks.
History can be done at the same time.
Cookies will delete all of them, so if you have any with Log on details, you will need to log in again.

If you can't remember any passwords, don't delete the cookies en mass.

I emailed Ancestry with the problem I and many others seem to be having with the sight freezing.

I finally had a reply basically saying
'You may need to clear out the cookies on your machine'
Anyone got any idea what it means and how I go about it?????
