Glad to help.........no doubt that's why the actual ages weren't recorded on the cert!

Thank you so much Reggie.

I had been thinking that Frederick would have been the same age or older than his bride....looks like she grabbed herself a bit of a toy boy!!

Once again many thanks. It all makes sense now.

His father was Samuel occupation Railway foreman.

I think this must be him in 1891....but no Frederick.

I believe that Samuel might have married a Dorcas Brotherwood in Tonbridge in 1870. She died in Tonbridge in 1880. Can't see a re- marriage to Annie.

What was his father's name? And occupation?

If he could be found on a census, it would help to pinpoint possible birth reg'n(s)

Thankyou Reggie,

Unfortunately bride and groom both showing full age on marriage cert. I know the bride was 34 at the time and it was her first marriage.

Thanks for reminding me about the checking point for when I order the birth cert.

His name will be shown in full on the index..........you will have his age on the marriage cert, which should help you to determine which birth reg'n is correct.

Also, his father's name can be used as a checking point if you decide to order a birth cert............

If it says Charles on the marriage cert then that is probably what the birth was registered under.

It is definitely the right cert because the bride is correct....and she is on the main family line.

There are a couple of births which are possibles for Frederick, but I don't know whether A or C would be more likely for his second name.

Thank you for your help.

The marriage certificate should be the correct one, the A was probably an error when the index was compiled.

Do any other details on the cert match with what you already know - such as occupation and name of father - name of bride etc.

Can you find a matching birth entry?

Sue C Report 30 Apr 2008 12:52

I have a bridegroom who shows up as Frederick A Standen on the indexes, but is down as Frederick Charles on the marriage cert. Which of these is more likely to be correct please?
