Generally speaking, though, you won't find Catholic church records on the IGI (if it happens that you need to look for them). For that, I have found the local records office more useful.

Hi Sharon.

Its worth checking out IGI<@** FamilySearch.org..**..on the left hand page of the site click Internatioanl Genealogical Index,

select Country ie Bristish Isles from dropdown list then other country ,ie Scotland.England etc,,then county,,,,,,and select which type of event,Bap/Christing/Marriage/Burial.

Less information can bring better results with just a name and no dates rather than with full parents..

But if you find what you belive could be right. ,,, ..always get it checked with the original entry in
Parish Registers which lots of local to area libraries have or a local to area Record/Archive........the IGI can be contrary to what you may find locally to the area of your research,

If you are away from the area,,see if a a local.Family History Soc exsists who are online most have a web site...they are very useful and well worth a membership ,,,,,,,,,,,

What is the best way to find pre-1837 records? Is it a trip to the area and can most records be found on the internet?

Any advice would be gratefully received, as I always seem to stumble at this point.
