I decided to go with Ancestry as my trial period was almost up. Its my birthday this week so when my son asked me what I wanted this was a perfect pressie!

I started GR as a bit of fun but didnt realise how quick the credits would run out and as they are 'only' £5 a time it was only when I totted them up realised how much I had spent --- An expensive mistake but of course when you start out you don't quite realise how addictive it really is!

I'm well and truly hooked now :oD

If you search the threads on here you will find this question comes up most weeks and the answer is always ancestry. Take the 14 day free trial - you would have got your £50 worth of GR info free if you had done so before. There is so much on there other than just the 1841-1901 census. Your £50 would have paid for nearly a year of 24/7 unrestricted searches.

I too have considered 'find my past' because someone said that having access to the NBI was great and having to do my research 'long distance' this and the birth and marriage indices would be useful. It is possible to search without accessing the originals so to try it out I put in a living relatives birth and 3 deaths which are known to be correct and none of them was listed. Does anyone have any experience of using these indices on FMP? The sub is quite expensive if it doesn't do what I want.

findmypast has address search facility which isn't on Ancestry (except for 1881) but it doesn't yet have all England /Wales censuses in full

Either is preferable to using GR................

I have had 2 years subscription on find my past and it is superb.
However I have been told by a few reliable sources that Ancestry has more than a few mistranscribed entries!!! and missing ones.
Choice is yours!
Try 6 months on each! then decide

Just going to do an annual subsciption and someone just mentioned findmypast which Ive just looked at

Can anyone tell me which is the best site to subscribe to as Ive used about £50 worth of credits on genes (those £5's tot up quickly! (eeeeekkkkk)

Shall I do

Ancestry.co.uk or

findmypast.com

dont know which is the best!
