are these the "Burnt out records"?

As it's typical it says it now completes the coverage of surnames in the range of A-H. and I can't find my John Corlett

Hi Louise,

These records are complete in the sense that ancestry have transcribed what's available. Many records were completely destroyed during the Blitz so ancestry can only transcribe those that survived.

Did he survive the war? I can have a look in military records for you.
Findmypast is a little more extensive.

Thanks Deb,

John Corlett, born 1881 (died 1925), I think he was only with the Motor Machine gun corps - and his regiment number was 99898

Hi Louise,

It looks very much like your g/grandad's records didn't survive.

The records jump from surnames Corkery to Cornelius, so Corl* is missing.

Sorry.

Hi Louise

I just checked Ancestry and found several entries for a John Corlett. I suggest that you don't go by the number on the index as these seem to frequently change. You would need to look through all the pages of the records to see if there had been any changes.

I had this problem with one of my relatives but did find the right record eventually.
