In the 1800's, if a widow gets married for a 2nd time would the marriage be registered using her maiden name or her married surname?

Usually in her latest name married name but her dad will show in her maiden name which will be a help

But theres always the exception. I found a second marriage where the bride used her maiden name again. guess she figured her spouse had died so she was single again!!

DRAT!
In my enthousiasm I've ordered the wrong birth cert.

I should have asked this question first.
Oh well, you learn by experience!

Thanks for the info. Shirley.
Hopefully I'm getting the hang of it too.

On a cert I have it states...

Mary Ellen Carney, widow.... Father, deceased, John Roberts.

So she was a Roberts who married a Carney, then she married a Croston,
