The birth places of the kids may be a clue to his regiment.

All soldiers discharged to pension before 1854 are indexed by name on the National Archives catalogue, but there is no Joseph Tetley I'm afraid. There will be records of him at Kew, but it would be essential to know his regiment -impossible otherwise.

it was only on his marriage record that he appears as a soldier, his childrens records he is down as a shoemaker. he died 1840 so no census record showing place of birth etc. this is my last hope of continuing down my family tree. thank you

There should be records at Kew - but on his childrens marriage certs - did it give any more information rather than just soldier? And does he appear on any census as a pensioner?

hi there my gr gr gr grandad married in 1811 and on the church record it stated he was a soldier, his first child born was 1815 so i am assuming he was in the napoleonic war. could anyone tell me if there would be a record of him serving in it and if so where would it be. He married in bolton but I do not know where he was born and I am hoping that maybe his war record may throw some light on this. thank you Joanne
