Hi Ivy

Actually it may well say that - the death cert is 1897 but the handwriting is very untidy and feint but I can make Typhoid Fever fit...Its from the GRO and that part is photocopied which has made it feinter

The first word has a definate OID at the end

I think you may well be right Ivy - I'll do a google on Typhoid Fever and see what comes up.

The poor wee mite, my gran always wondered who the little boy was in an old photo with her mum as a child

I feel now he has a name and isnt just an old photo anymore

Thanks Ivy

Peritoneal hernia, maybe?

Hard to guess without seeing it, though.

You could scan and upload it to a photo-sharing site like flickr or photobucket and then post the address here so we can look at it.

Could it be typhoid fever? Would it have such a devastating effect?

Did the certificate come from the GRO or somewhere else? Is the handwriting modern/Victorian?

I've had a death cert this morning of my gt gt uncle who died aged 9

I an read parts but the writing is so bad that perhaps someone may be able to help fill in the blanks

Cause of Death

Perforation of bowel
Peritonitis

The part I cant understand is at the top of these 2 and could be a few things

It looks like Bappitoid Cleaner? or Salpitoiel Ebearen

Bryptioid Elearen

Ive tried googling but cant even find anything close.

I think its related to the bowel perforation but does anyone have a clue please??

Many Thanks
PS Used a magnifying close and no joy
