i think i have found the right one, my partners mother remembers a couple of aunts names ans seems to remember a certain surname which i had on the list of possibles and her mother was born in the correct quarter( well she was born late sept and is on oct quarter) i will carry on looking. it seems as though most of the children were born out of wedlock thiugh but will look a bit deeper into this tonight when i get back on computer.

Do you know or can you ask...is his Gran the eldest child?

This is a good starting point to look for the marriage ;-)

Gerri.

If she WAS the 1st born...dont be suprised if she was born out of wedlock!...she will then have been reg under her mothers maiden name....

Maybe the best route to take is as Claire suggests...1st find out if she had younger Siblings.

How about asking Granny if she had any brothers or sisters & getting hold of one of their birth certs?

hi gerri,
i have yet to order the certificate, i started looking yesterday on line but keep drawing blanks. my partners grandmother might already have a certificate tucked away somewhere. i am doing the search for my mother in law so i do not reall want to hurt the feelings of his grandmother by just going ahead and ordering it incase there is a reason why she " does not know" i will keep searching and thanks for your reply.

Have you got his Grandmothers birth cert? That will have her mothers maiden name on it and the Fathers name and occupation.

You can buy certs online for just £7.

Maybe they were married before?

My Mum was born in 1913 and she diddnt know her Mothers Christian name!....

Back then it was bad manners or/and dissrespectful to call your Mother by her Christian name...unlike kids of today who call thier teachers by it!

hi guys,
i was wondering i anyone had any ideas how to find the parents of my partners grandmother. i have searched the bmds and have found that there was a lady born with the same name same birth year and there is a mothers maiden name. when i have searched for a marriage for her mother and father the 2 surnames do not match up.
the man who her mother married did not have the same surname as the daughter and neither did the mother.
my partners grandmother is still alive but does not know her mothers maiden name she is 87 so maybe she forgot or she genuinley may not know.

any advice is appreciated.
thanks ahhleigh
