I was a novice 3 years ago and it took me a while to understand my doings.
There is always someone on here day and night for you to ask, talk to, or join in the searchings and FUN.

Nicola

If you require help from an individual person who has offered you help you click on their name. That will then send them a pm(private message),this can only be viewed by the person you are sending it to.If you want help from alot of people you can start a thread.

There are a few boards to do this on.Records Office is good place to ask for lookups and if you are confused and need advise then the Tips Board is good for that.Other boards are the Trying to Find Board and Surname Board and History Board. Please remember the golden rule though to only post a thread (Incase you are wondering this is a thread what i am writing here),on 1 board only.Don't post the same request on several boards. The main reason not to do this is because then their would be lots of people looking for info for you that others on other boards may have already found you.And would be wasting peoples time.

Best to jump in the deep end and post a thread for help on whatever ancestor is causing you probs at the moment.Lots of people will be happy to help.Make sure you list year of birth, place of birth-County and District if you know it and any siblings or parents names you have(these are a bonus but not essential).

Best of luck to you and before long you will be comfortable and confident. You wait and see!

Hi Nicola,

Clicking on add topic starts a new thread.

If you have already started one, look at the box on the left hand side "Top Tips" and click on my threads.

You seem to be doing OK...........just take things slowly; it will all fall into place.

And at least you are asking for advice......not jumping in at the deep end and causing yourself problems.........

Have fun doing your research.............

Your doing fine on this thread Nicola lol

If you start a thread and have to pop off line for a bit....say so on the thread.
It's infuriating when your trying to help someone and they dont answer!

...also....only put dead peoples names and DOB on the boards...NEVER put living people on here.

Thats the best time to take it to a PM.

If you want help with your tree....start a thread (like this one)....but go back to it from time to time to see if anyone has answered you...even a few days after!

Put your answer on the thread...if you start going to PMs (Private Messages) you could get in a muddle.

One question per thread...

Good luck

If you posted a question and someone has offered to help it's better to add any information you have on the thread.

MrsBucketBouquet Report 16 May 2008 11:13

If your new to research....keep things to yourself untill you know your way around a bit better or you could find yourself being snowed under by TOO much info!

Work on one subject/problem/name at a time.

Welcom to the nut house but have fun.
