Records / archives confusion

I'm reaching the limits of what I can learn about my family from internet alone, and realise that the next step is to investigate parish records etc.

Many of my family are from different bits of Staffordshire - Kingswinford, Wolverhampton, Penkridge and so on. What I would like to know, is whether all the records for Staffs are in one central place, or where do I need to go? (I have heard mention of Dudley Archives, and Wolverhampton Archives).

Hope someone can give me some clues!

There are Record Offices all over the country, go to www.familybmd.com/recordoffices.htm and it lists them all, this was very kindly put on here by a member of Genes a few days ago.

I have ancestors all over the country and usually make a couple of days of it, often staying over in a guest house in the area and having a look at the place too, although sometimes there is just too much to do in the record office.

You can find some very interesting things but it is worth phoning first if you havent been before, cos you need some forms of id and in some you have to book machines etc., for searching the records.

Good luck

Thanks, Von.
This may be a silly question, but would it be one central record office for the whole county?
You can see I'm quite new to this.

Thanks, Marilyn.
That's a really useful site - sorry, I failed to find the previous posting about it.
Luckily Staffordshire is quite reachable for me.

Also Liz if you google the name of the place you are interested in plus History Society, sometimes if you are lucky you can gain information from that.
