Hi Sandra

Even if you manage to get the birth certificate it will only tell you that he was adopted. It won't give you any clues to his adoptive names.
However, getting the birth certificate will validate that he was born and existed :-)
I'm assuming your mother was unmarried and gave birth in her maiden name. Did she have a popular surname?. Do you happen to know the name of the father? if the father gave consent your brother will also be registered in his name... just another way of narrowing your search down.
Just out of interest... my brother was born in Wrexham and adopted in the Manchester area. The two places are not too far from each other... maybe 30 miles.
Have you checked out the registration districts in the Manchester area? extend it out a bit further to cover Cheshire.
A major clue for me finding my adopted brother was realising Chester (Cheshire) and Wrexham were only 5 miles apart (I also knew of his adoptive first name which made my search a bit easier)
Cheers Gerry

Sandra Wrexham and Manchester are worlds apart. Can you not try looking just for a name since you know that and not a area. Annie

Can anyone advise me please? Is it possible to find my half brother through my Mums name as every avenue I was given hasn't worked out!! I know he was adopted from Wrexham and I know the year. I was told he was born in Manchester but every certificate I have applied for in different christian names comes back with quote... mothers name does not match!!! As quite a number of years have passed I believe the facts were forgotten!!! I have put notices out with what little info I know is correct. Any help would be appreciated as I get rather frustrated trying to think of ways to find him.
regards
Sandra
