Ive nudged it up again. Virginia. people can do that because they have an ancestry sub.

I would say, re freebmd - what you are doing is looking at the ad for ancestry at the top of the freebmd page - you need to scroll down to actually see the search boxes for freebmd itself.

But certainly you need that ancestry.co.uk sub.

Thanks kate. I find all this really confusing.. I looked at Freebdm.org and it was just a sponser for other sites or so it seems... I am slowly getting the hang of it.. One lady sent me loads she found dates of birth, baptism all in one lump... how do people do that...he found not one but two generations of one family of mine in about 5 seconds!! Ginny xx

Hi Virginia

If you look at the bottom of this page - it may have dropped down to page 2 by now - I think there is a thread called "Tips for Newbies - Please Add" or something.

I think you are doing pretty well so far - I found I learnt stuff in stages. For instance, a contact of mine often sent me bits he had found on the BMD indexes and I couldn't work out how he could find dates after 1912 - I only realised when someone mentioned looking on the full index, not the FreeBMD one (as Ancestry calls it).

can anyone please tell me where to find Heathers tips? Janet has said that they are very good for the novice such as me.

Thanks xx
