Hi all,

Just as a matter of interest i have been looking at records for oscar wilde and family. after his imprisonment his wife constance and sons cyril and vyvyan changed their surname to holland.

I have found the birth records of the boys in 1885 and 1886 respectively (both Chealsea) and both of them on 1891 census as boarders (mistranscribed as wilds) and i have also found cyril in the 1901 census as cyril holland, however i cannot find vyvyan. if anyone has a spare 5minutes would you please be able to have a quick look for me?

Vyvyan Oscar B Wilde
dec 1886 chelsea

by 1901 name changed to vyvyan holland.

I have looked under holland, hollend, hollends and hollands. a qick loook would be great, simply because i am interested- unfortunately not related at all!

Thanks in advance,

Leanne.

Have you looked for a death record? Or do you know if he survived beyond 1901?

It is the writer Oscar Wilde's family. oscar himself died in 1900 in Paris. his wife Constance in 1898. i am ashamed to say i didn't even think to look for a death. i assumed he was still alive. i beleive he was though as i have a book which gives a chronology and it does not mention his death before 1908 when it ends. i will have a look. thanks Jill, bit of a dense moment there. i'll have a look.

thanks,
Leanne.

had a look on freebmd and i can't see a death for vyvyan before 1901 either as Wilde or holland. sorry i should have thought to check that first.

my boyfriend and i just went to paris a couple of months ago and we went to pere lachaise cemetery to see his grave. i'm fascinated by Oscar wilde- he was such an interesting man. i just love his works so thought it would be ineresting to find him in censi etc but now i'm frustrated as i can't find vyvyan! lol. typical me can't leave it alone now!
