I wonder if there would be any thing useful on his application for his licence? Have you also had a go at finding him on Old Bailey online - lots of my licensed victuallers have appeared on there :)

Whats his name?

It could be. It's the first death certificate I've got that mentions it. He ran the Swan Tavern in Stockwell, Lambeth which explains the Gout - I'm guessing he liked to join his customers in a drink or two. Must be a family trait - my granddad died of complications arising from gout due to his heavy daily drinking at the local pub! This ancestor is proving to be a pain, he was born in 1806 in Lambeth area and no parents were listed on the marriage which means I've got to visit Lambeth Archives to find his birth entry to see if i can find his parents.

Seems strange to have a proper post mortem for obviously natural causes. Im just wondering if this was one of the early ones which was actually doctor certified and that it doesnt actually mean a post mortem was held, just that a doctor certified post mortem?

Hi,
I have just received a death certificate of one of my ancestors from 1860 and in the cause of death column it mentions 'Post-mort Certified'. I'm assuming this means a postmortem was carried out. Can anyone tell me if these records are available anywhere?

Thanks
Linda
