Play with it Virginia. Its all there, just have a good mooch around and see what else you can do - like finding people just using their first name and the rest of their info - which is something you may well have to do if a surname is badly mistranscribed.

But Jim gave you three separate bits of info. He entered her name and births deaths and marriages would have come up as well as the census info. So he could see her birth ref and then looked on and saw a death ref and had she lived, very possibly he would have seen likely matches for a marriage.

Jim is that the census from ancestory.co.uk where you can do that?

Better still than what Jim suggests is to always go to the original census page. It's amazing how many mistakes are made on the transcriptions. I always use the originals.

I've just had a look & Jim has given you 3 separate bits of info

Jessie's birth
Jessie's death
& Jessie on the 1901 census which looks like it has come from doing a search of just that census on Ancestry.

You are probably not doing anything wrong but like most things in life, you get better with practice.

I am learning so please be kind. Jim has just helped me with the death of a child in my family. I did manage to find the information myself through ancestry.co.uk but all I found was Name, quarter of death and age.. Jim found all the same but with mothers name fathers name etc. so much easier for cross checking. I found the same the other night too, not only did they find the name, but also babtism, marriage..... Where am I going wrong here??
You are all great for helping me Ginny xx
