The easiest way is to get a copy of Charles' birth certificate from GRO (it costs £7). This will confirm his parents names. |

The census records are not the most accurate for year of birth. It is probably best to do as Margaret says and get the marriage certificate. This way you know it is the right one rather than guessing at the correct birth certificate. In the earlier census records they often rounded births to the nearest 5 years! |

Just a little correction, Ginny, it was only the 1841 census where the ages were rounded and they were rounded DOWN to the nearest 5 years but only for those over the age of 15. So if someone's age shows as 15 they could be anywhere from 15 to 19. You have to be careful when you see 2 children with the same age of 15, don't assume they're twins. |
