I have to agree with Margaret re submitted entries...I have had several submitted entries which I checked out with the local records office or library to that location and found them to be accurate.... in turn I have gathered more information ie witnesses to a marriage etc.

It is a case of checking the entries out wherever possible and not taking them on face value.

Just to say, don't ignore submitted records, they are not all duff. They often have links to other siblings and you then have to decide whether to rely on the submission or not. But it is still worth looking.

Margaret

PS Some of the extracted records are not accurate either. No substitute for viewing them directly at the records office.

Just make sure it is an 'extracted' record - ie one that has been extracted from the actual parish registers.

The other type are 'submitted' and have been sent in by any Tom Dick or Harry researching their tree - these are not checked and therefore not always accurate!

Just another little tip,
When you find a baptism of someone on IGI, click on the batch number. You get a new screen. Type in last name and parents' first names and you'll get brothers and sisters. As long as they were born in the same place, that is.
