Thank you all for your help. My father was adopted immediately after birth as his mother died and his middle name was registered as his adoptive family's surname. I doubt there are any records in this case.

Just to add , there where societys that handled adoptions prior to 1927 , some do still hold records and these are avaliable to anyone who can prove they are next of kin to the deceased adoptee .
I traced two from my family , one 1913 and one 1920 .

Helen , do you have your fathers birth certificate ? If he was informally adopted his certificate would still be avaliable in his original name and unless they adopted him retrospectively after 1927 there probably are no records.
I have Millers in my family tree , from Blaina.

Hi Helen,

Just to start,,adoptions didnt take any welfare paper work route till 1927,,so if any does exsist a formal adoption would have taken place then or after, then making your father aged 4.,

Second factor,,,only an adoptee can apply for any record that may exsist about their adoption,,,,,you as a daughter of an adopted person wouldn't have any legal rights to this information,

Social Services in the area are the ones to approach but finding any record could prove invalid, and doubt getting any information will draw a blank,

Can anyone help me with where to start looking for my father's adoption records. He was born and adopted in Wales in 1923. I know the adoptive family's name was Miller and they lived in Tredegar but that's about it. All suggestions gratefully received.
