It may well be worth trying to contact them . The informant on my G.Aunts death certificate was a life long friend and arranged her funeral .

Sorry, should have added that a funeral director can/should never be an informant as they have an interest in the event which excludes them from acting as informant.

Causing the body to be buried (or cremated) is the term applied to an informant who has no other relationship to the deceased but is making the funeral arrangements. This is often the case where there are no relatives or they are to old and infirm to be able to register or make the arrangements themselves.

Hi

Again thanks to all. The deceased was my birth mother and I was hoping that she had family that I could contact to find out something about her. It seems so sad that she might have died alone

I have my gt aunts death cert from 1977. She had a falling out with the family so nobody knew about her death until after it happened.

The informant was "causing the body to be buried"
The address was where she had been living 19 Royal Crescent Whitby. However she died in Whitby Hospital.

Im assuming 19 Royal Crescent was/is a retirement home or somekind of private hotel and the informant a manager/owner of the place.

My gt aunt never married and had lived in America for over 40 years returning about 1959.
She never owned property so pretty sure she didnt own 19 Royal Crescent.

As Im in NZ I cant check out 19 Royal Crescent

I registered a death last week for a resident at the home where I work, and it said on cert qualification, causing the body to be buried.
I could have been qualified to give the information as a relative, if the death took place in a 'house' that I owned and knew the person, or as the person who was arranging the funeral. the latter applied to me.

The person has no known relatives.

Hi Debby.

This route would depend how long ago the event took place,,?

HI

Thanks to all. Not a neighbour as the address is in another town.

I am wondering whether to write to the person and ask if they new the deceased. Is that acceptable do you think?

I am "the person causing the body to be cremated" on my wife's aunt's death certificate. According to the Registrar, this term is applied to informants who are not blood related to the deceased.

It means an un-related person to the deceased,,,,,but qualified to give the registrar the relevant information,so could be anyone even a neighbour,

Hi Debby

I've had one of those, too; the person was someone in charge at a nursing home, who was no relation.

In my experience if the informant is related to the deceased, the certificate states this.

I have a copy of a death certificate that states under the heading qualification of informant ' Causing the body to be cremated' Could this mean that the informant was the funeral director/nurse at hospital etc.

I have gound to a halt as it doesn't appear that this person was related - or might he have been and the death certificate doesn't state?
