I found when I downloaded my tree from Ancestry that there were a lot of errors especially with surnames. It took me ages to sort out and I have only got a couple of hundred names!

A lot of people have huge trees and it can be very easy to accumulate that sort of number if you are able to link into well documented families such as people with medieval links can do.

I have no idea why the GR tree hasn't come out with the full number but I am wondering why you want to put the whole lot on GR?

I think I could probably find about the same sort of size tree if I tried but it involves a vast number of very complicated distant cousin marriages and it also goes a very long way back.

Having sorted out my Hot Matches today and weeded out those that matched very distant ancestors I'm really glad I've only got a basic tree on site.

Surely it makes more sense to keep the GR tree as the one you use to make contacts only and then pass on more details after you've found distant cousins?

Good luck anyway

I have just over a thousand and even some of those who are twigs I tend to forget about until someone asks about them! The important people to me are my direct line, those who had they not existed I would not be alive today.

I´m amazed you have THAT many names?

How on earth do you look after them all?

I feel I know all my people "personally" as I´ve done the research on each one (if someone has given me a name I check that out too). I get a buzz out of doing that and checking on maps where they lived etc. I would just be completely overwhelmed with a tree like yours!

20,000 is a LOT of people - perhaps GR cannot handle that many?

I doubt many people have a tree with anywhere near that many people!

My goodness, how long did it take you to get 20000 relatives! The GR program (someone correct me if Im wrong) only adds those who have a death date - otherwise they assume its a living person and hide the info.

Mail them with the query.

Hi, not sure if anyone will have the answer. I have a family tree on Ancestry an there is over 20 thousand people on it but when I imported the gedcom to GR it only showed just less than 16 thousand. I already had a family tree on GR and it does say you on't have to delete the old tree as importing just re-writes the previous tree so I on't unerstan why it came out at so many less
