Two possibilities: either he transferred- you said he was a career soldier - or they are not the same person, I would think George Platt is a fairly common name

On WW1 records on Ancestry I found George Platt born Runcorn 1881, this record shows he had joined the Royal Artillery Nov 1898, he was a career soldier.
The record shows he was in France Oct 1914 to Aug 1918, under the medals section it shows he was awarded the Military Medal, London Gazette 29/7/16

The only record I can find in the London Gazette is under Royal Marines Pte Platt G 148th Fd Amb RM med unit [Manchester]

Is this the same man and if so how does his entry in the gazette come under Royal Marines, or have I missed something somewhere.

Thanks for any help
