Two possibilities: either he transferred- you said he was a career soldier - or they are not the same person, I would think George Platt is a fairly common name |

On WW1 records on Ancestry I found George Platt born Runcorn 1881, this record shows he had joined the Royal Artillery Nov 1898, he was a career soldier. |
