Gwyn's right.

But, some parish records show mum's name as well - even if it won;t give you her surname.

I've found one set of records (in Meopham, Kent I think) where before 1803 (or whenever the standard baptism form came in) the priest used to include mother's maiden name plus where the couple had married. Really helpful. After the standard form came in there was much less info!!

Good luck

Don;t worry Sue.

If it's extracted they will definitely have the film. If it's submitted they may not but on their website you can hunt through the lists of films they hold. What they post on their website is just a fraction of the info they have as not all records have been transcribed.

There's also somewhere on their website where you can find your local Church.

If you cannot find the records you want in their listings then ring them for help. They are lovely people - very helpful.

Good luck.

If you do get to see parish registers of baptism, you're getting into the time period when often only the father was named.

Another route would be to look for a possible Will written by a possible father....and hope that your man and his siblings are named, along with the deceased's wife.

Hi Jill

Thanks for your reply. So if I find the information was extracted I can order the films will that then show his parents. For my local latter day church I will find it when i google it?

The IGI should have films of the baptism records for the parish - that is if the info you found was extracted and not submitted.

You can order the films in to your local Latter Day Saints church and view them there. It only costs a couple of pounds.

In my tree I have someone born 1781 I have found out all the information I can for his family via Ancestry.
How can I now go back further. I have looked on IGI but cant see any thing apart from his birth.
I would like to know how to find his parents or siblings.
I can not seem to find parish records for essex what site might hold some.
