What are 'Rents of Heritage'.

I have just down loaded my GGGgrandfathers Inventory of his Personal Estate after his death from the Scotlands people website, and it mentions some 'Rents of Heritage' due to him by 5 different tenants'. Does anyone know what this could mean, he died in 1865 in Scotland. |
