Tree Security

I wonder how many of you are aware that it is possible for any of your contacts to whom you have granted access to your tree, to pass this access on to any of their contacts, without your knowledge.

I discovered this quite by accident today, when I received an email from a GR contact to my personal email address ( not through GR) asking me to check out a tree on GR. I found I had access to his home page, and because he was permanently logged in to GR, I could read all his messages on GR, view all the trees to which he had access, I could have edited or even deleted all the information on his tree, had I so wished.

Needless to say, I broke my connection to his home page, I immediately sent him a message telling him what he had done, and how not to do it again. I know this was done in all innocence, as he is a long time contact and distant cousin who I have met and got to know. It does however, show up a weakness in the GR system, something worth remembering, especially by those who include a lot of personal details on their tree.

Normal GR access security would not allow this to someone who is accessing your tree through their own account.

I think you should talk to GR about your concerns rather than posting here with what seems to be only a very small part of the story. What you describe is NOT possible.

Write to me off the board if you like and tell me how to replicate it - I don't think what you think happened is wat actually happened.
