I ordered the marriage certificate for my 3x great grandfather and it named his father as James Connelly and gave his job as Dairy man. James was born in County Dublin. Anyone any ideas on what his job was?

I would have thought it was like the old fashioned milking the cows or a milk delivery man, where you could have milk, butter or cream Delivered by horse and cart.

Not sure though!!

Thank you for suggesting it I had no clue and all his descendents in England for several generations were miners so no clue in their jobs.

I googled for victorian dairy butter cheese machines and came up with this site

http://www.igg.org.uk/gansg/12-linind/milk.htm

which describes the people and the tasks involved in getting milk into cities
