For military records you have to have the name, unit, service number and permission in writing either of the person you are looking for or, if they are dead, their death certificate and the written permission of their NOK. Each search costs £30.

Hi Susan

All the BMD are on line but after about 1925 you have to trawl through the indeces quarter by quarter, until 1984. After that the BMDs are searchable by name, etc

The only medal rolls online at present are for WW1, if that's what you mean.
