I have my nans dates of birth/death and can't find anything on ancestory - sill question but why can't I?

I really don't know what I'm supposed to do next

Any advise appreciated

Post some details.

The members can then say how they found the info to give you a clue as to how to use Ancestry

Ancestry can be a bit cumbersome till you get started. But it can come up with some wonderful stuff. I found through there, quite by chance, a scanned copy of my Grandpa and Grandma's marriage certificate, complete with their writing and signatures and all parents names. It was a Canadian marriage so I'd never have found it just with info from this country.

thanks guys!

My nan was called Isabella Stewart (nee Newlands) born September 1925/26 in Buckie in Scotland. She married Jack Stewart born 2nd May 1930.
Nan died inEngland in September 1977 and grandad died September 2004

As they're both deceased I don't know where to go from here to find there parents etc

thanks

Hi Kelly - you will probably need to use www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to help you with the Scottish records!

Hi Kelly.

Have you got your grandparents marriage cert? That will tell you their father's names and occupation etc..
Then you will be able to search 1901 census and short list possible matches. Usually family christian names run through families and also occupation. So if your great grandfather was a shoemaker then possible his son would follow in his footsteps.

Did your grandparents have other children? Can you work out when they married? If Isabella eldest you are looking for her parents marrying abt 1923/1924.

Was your Nan Isobel or Isabella?
Do you know where she died?

I tried looking on Ancestry for her death because her date of birth should be shown, ....but nothing quite matches your information in September or December quarter 1977.

Well i've just found out although all her family were born in Buckie - she was born in Aberdeen. Also her real name was Isabella but she was known as Isabel. She died in Surrey in England.

Thanks!

Ooh
I've got Newlands born in Aberdeen around that time.

Still can't see a match for your Nan

There's an Isobel whose death was registered in Bracknell. Her given date of birth was 25 September 1925......

OK
If you want to find your information for yourself on Ancestry ....
click on where it says Go directly to UK Births Marriages and Deaths records.
On new screen.... Click on Deaths in the COMPLETE.. BMD section

On new screen fill in September quarter ( 3rd one down)... her name... and 1977

On new page click on VIEW IMAGE
There will show an alphabetical list to search.
The place of registration is shown plus the reference number.
If you want to order certificates from GRO you will need those references.

Happy hunting
