I think the whole net is on a go slow the last few days :(

It may also be worthwhile checking if this Arthur has a WW1 pension record on ancestry which would name his wife and any kids?

Thanks Kate. I think its fairly safe to say then that Arthur John Bagshaw was my Great Great Grandfather, and it looks like the census leads me my GGGGrandfather in Edward. I think I'll buy my Great Grandmother's birth certificate to make sure. She's one of the babies you mention.

:)

To add to what Heather said, the people on each "page" of the quarter are listed in alphabetical order but they should be listed in couples, so either Bagshaw has married Nellie Broadbent or Florence Hall.

I suspect he has married Florence Hall - on the births index (up to 1920) there are three Bagshaw babies born in West Bromwich with a mother called Hall.

Pleased youre pleased but as always, certificates are needed to be 100%. But there are some unusual names there so if they are reused in the next generation well, you can be pretty sure this is the right man.

And yes, the people on the freebmd are only listed in alphabetical order so any of the grooms could be marrying any of the brides :)

"Yes, its this one: Of course it doesnt mean that Bagshaw married the Hall listed."

Do you just mean that it's possible Bagshaw married Broadbent? Or is it even possible that he married someone on a completely different page?

Wow thanks Heather. You've just added 2 generations to a line of my tree (assuming it all checks out, don't go just by the index, blah, blah...). I think this must be the right guy. Some of the sibling names even fit with names of people further down which is nice!

Thank you!

Ive just had a quick search on freebmd - NO Arthur J Baghaw births coming up - but there is this guy:

Births Mar 1884
Bagshaw Arthur John Aston 6d 383

Here he is in 1901:

Name: Arthur J Bagshaw
Age: 17
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Edward J
Mother's Name: Kate
Gender: Male
Where born: Birmingham; Aston

Civil Parish: Aston Manor
Ecclesiastical parish: Lozells St Silas
County/Island: Warwickshire
Country: England

AND NO Arthur J Baghaw coming up for the 1901 so I think its a very safe bet this is the bloke and you were correct about the misspelling :)

Yes, its this one: Of course it doesnt mean that Bagshaw married the Hall listed.

You could look on the 1901 for an Arthur Bagshaw or Baghaw? Is the area right?

Well I found it through the freebmd. It's actually spelt wrong on the original copy of the complete index itself.

I do know the children details and I will buy birth certificates to verify everything properly eventually and I suppose that will clear it up. This is just a bit of initial research.

Very possibly - whre did you look - freebmd or the complete index? (My own name is mispelt on the complete index!) and I have a GGF who is mispelt.

If you buy the cert will you be able to verify its the right one from other info you already know? Did these people have any children that you know of - can you buy a birth cert to find the name of the father?

I'm looking on the marriage index for someone called Bagshaw (first name unknown), married somewhere between 1900-1911. I already know the spouse's name (Florence Hall), but I can't find a Bagshaw on the same page as any Florence Hall. All I can find is Baghaw (Q1, 1911, vol 6d, p162).

I don't think Baghaw is a name. Is it possible that this is a mistake on the register, and that this actually is the person I'm looking for?
