thanks everyone i thougth i t was just me needing a new pair of glasses. so if he was a ship brokers clark in 1861 i wonder if that had anything to do with susan being born in americas. is there any site i could look at to see if ther are any immigration records. ?
so i think i will go with a non ****** agent for the 1851 census

Ooh, that's a bit of a toughie! Three words, but I think the last one is "Agent".

Working on the basis that the 1861 Census has him listed as a "Ship Broker's Clark", I would imagine he may have been doing something along the same lines.

Good hunting, though!

hi i wonder if someone could take a look at this 1851 wales census for john martin and family and let me know what you think it says for his occupation.
also his daughter susan ellin martin c1845 was born in the united states ( indiana) is there anyone out ther who could help me unravel why john martin and his wife ann jones would be in america and when they would have gone
any help would be much appreciated
