It's true. My husband's grandparents had a deferred funeral. Grandad died in 1988 and 70% was paid and when Grandma died in 2004, the remaining 30% plus interest was paid.

Do you know who held the burial service?

Taking up Mary's idea I wondered if perhaps there was a different clergy at that time, perhaps visiting from another parish ?

....or was it a code for a nearby burial ground.
I know a church where many churchyard graves were full by that time, so a nearby cemetery was used.

...Oh...Looks like Deb has a possible answer ?

Deferred funeral.

For a double plot, full payment is deferred until both parties are buried.

Went to see a parish clerk yesteday who allowed me to copy family names out of a burial register. Copied a husband and wife and noticed they had D.F. in the margin against their names. Asked the p.c. and she didn't know. We looked to see if there was any kind of reference elsewhere but nothing.

Wife died first in January and husband died the next month in February and both were buried in the same grave in the month they died. They both died in parish ... so.... what does D.F. stand for ....it is not double funeral, don't fill or double fee. HELP ........please.
