If you want to buy a BMD cert, heres how and here
is the addy where you can buy it online... (copy n paste the following...)

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

(tip)Never pay more than £7
(another tip) for a marriage, you only need
put one partners name when ordering.

If you are ordering online from the GRO,
make sure that when the form asks
"Is the full GRO reference known?"
that you tick the "yes" box.

Be very careful about websites that charge more!

Hi Kathlyn,

Yes, unless your friend's mother was adopted.

I have a short birth cert that gives no clue to my adoption, but I am not in the GRO under that name so if you can't find it this could be a reason.

I will get to Chelmsford!

Kind regards
Amanda

Hi
Yes the GRO have copies of the Full birth certificate, but also she can get a certificate from the Register office in the registration area that she was registered.
It depends on how long ago your friend's Mum was born.
My mum was born in Croydon and I got her birth cert from Croydon Reg office.
You are at an advantage as you have the date of birth.
Phone up the register office involved and ask.
I have recently sent off for a birth cert for 1901 with a SAE and I got it 2 days later.
GRO are usually very good, as long as you have the ref no which you will have to look up the BMD listings.
When you irder you are usually given a date that they will send out to you, 6 days normally. and they are £7.
Be very careful.about websites that charge more!
If you want them overnight then I think they will cost £21.00

I am doing some research for a friend and she has loaned me the "small" sized birth cert of her mother. As my friend knows nothing about her grandparents, names etc. I need to obtain a "full" sized copy of the birth cert.

Is all the information stored at the GRO that would enable me to obtain what in fact would be a "full" birth cert??
