Can anyone help me find out more details?

I am looking for the marriage of Edwin William Fosten in about 1930.
He was born in England in 1901 and emigrated to Canada in 1914 with his parents.I have found the burial records for his parents Arthur 1954 and Ada 1943 both at Burnsland Cemetery.
it is possible that Edwin married a Lily Dunne as a record was found in the Calgary Herald for Mrs Fosten in 1930.

Also I know that they had a daughter born 6th October 1931 at the General Hospital,Calgary but no name is given. This was again found in a report from the Calgary Herald.

I have tried contacting the editor at the Calgary Herald but get no reply.

Can anyone fill in the gaps.
Who did Edwin marry and what was his daughter's name?

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Hi John -- if you check the link Lynda gave, you'll see:

Who can apply for a Genealogical Search?

Vital Statistics records are not public. The person applying for a genealogical search must show they are eligible (pdf) to apply for someone's birth, marriage, death or stillbirth documents.

The only exceptions are:
* After 75 years has passed anyone can apply for any marriage registration

You may already know tihs, of course. BMD registration info is considered to be personal info in Canada and is protected by privacy legislation. You aren't going to be able to get access an official record unless you are an eligible person (see the link in the passage I pasted, at the site).

But for the marriage, you seem to fall outside the protected period. So you should be able to get a copy of the certificate if that's what you're after.

Fosten is not a common name; if you check here

http://findaperson.canada-411.ca/person

you'll see there are only 3 listings in Canada, all in Ontario. Unfortunately, if your couple had no sons, they would not likely have descendants with that surname.

Because you do have the dates of the couple's deaths, you could obtain death certificates -- the cutoff for access is 50 years, and their deaths fall outside the protected period. The certificates might have some info that could be of use.

If you're wanting to obtain a copy of the obituaries published in the Calgary Herald, I wouldn't contact the editor.

I can't find a straightforward way of contacting the classified ads department there, to get to someone in charge of obituaries (which seem to be published on an independent site). You might be best to telephone the number here:

The public library in Calgary would certainly have microfilm archives of the newspaper.

Here ya go:

Genealogy resources and help. They don't seem to be big on email addresses, but a phone call might be worth it.

Good luck!
