I have hit a brick wall getting back any further than my gt gt gt grandfather EDWARD HUNT born in 1828 Smethwick Staffordshire, can not find record of his birth so can not trace his mother. Have his marriage cert, father is Joseph Hunt blacksmith, no census record (that I can find) of Edward in 1841. Edward had sister Hannah born 1831, other siblings from 1836-1849. A while ago a contact "found" Edwards mother to be a Lucy Turton, but from birth dates last child would have been born when she was 66 years old, so bit sceptical. Can anyone help me get to Edwards parents so that I can move on, (or rather backwards), have been trying off and on for nearly 2 years and just don't know how to solve Edwards pre-marriage life. Are there any records sites on line for the Smethwick/West Bromwich and surrounding area that I don't know of and can look at? Any help would be a real help.
Many a sleepless night over Edward & Co, haven't even started on my Smiths yet!!!!!!!!!

Have you looked on the West Midlands BMD site? Of course this will only help you reference any births, deaths, marriages which occured after Sept 1837.

REMOVE ( ) brackets.

If you are definately sure about Edward's younger siblings (born after 1837) you could get a copy of one of their birth certificates - which will give you Edward's mother's maiden name.

This does look like my Edward, , seem also to have found the rest of family in 1841, but where the dickens is his sister Hannah born 1831 - the plot thickens. Karen.

Minnie, Edward married Jane Aston Whitacker January 9th 1848 Handsworth Parish Church, which is all within the area he lived his life. His siblings were (I believe) Hannah b. 1831, Pheobe b. 1836, Joseph b. 1838, John b. 1840, Charles b. 1845, Rebecca b. 1846, henry b. 1849, all born in Smethwick, Oldbury or Londonderry. Staffordshire or Worcestershire, (boundaries very close). Thanks Karen.

Thanks everyone, taking in all suggestions, keep them coming, will be looking at suggested sites for BMD's Noticed on 1841 Joseph and Lucy (Lacy) living with them is what looks like a Sarah Turton,looks like aged 15. Also a bit above is a Sarah Hunt aged 70 could well be Josephs mother. I've got the searching bug again now - Karen.

I think you need to buy one of the birth certs to get Lucy's maiden name.

There is Hannah Hunt 1831 living with a family in West Bromwich
She is transcribed as living with Joseph Bloomer but you need to turn back a page on the image. The familiy head is transcribed as George Handley occ shingler but I have my doubts as image faded
Hannah might be a servant but it doesnt say.
