I have a relative Charles Newberry born 1832 St Pancras Middlesex London, My GGG Grandfather.
His father was William Newberry born1804 St Mary Lambeth London, Williams Wife was Sara Pickett Born Oxford 1804 NOT IN BENSON THOUGH !
Having looked through 80% of Oxfords database i cant find her birth at Oxford at all? around 1804.
Williams father was also a William who married a Jane ?
I have seen at least 3 or 4 trees on this site that shows William Newberrys father as Thomas who married Ann Atwells THAT IS NOT CORRECT AND YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR TREES or do some research.
I spend quite a few weekends going to differant locations and record office's to get my information to make sure its correct and im more then willing to share it as i have already but there are to many trees on here with the wrong information on them?

Gareth are you taking into consideration the English naming pattern 1700-1875.
There could be several married sons who have children with the same name and about the same age so you could all be correct.

I agree its essential to get marriage cert first to confirm a fathers name or you could be following the wrong line if you just take it from the census

Personally Gareth I dont really care what other people put on their trees , if they get it wrong , so what.
Ive seen a lot who have tacked Maine USA onto my relatives that were born in England just to make them fit their trees.
If it makes them happy thats fine by me !

I have told a few of these people that it is wrong as i have the evidence !
and when i look back the information is still there?
I have been given a lot of information myself but i never put it on my tree untill i have done my own reasearch ie take the long trip to the records office of that town.
People are copying other trees wich is fine nut there not asking for the evidence to back it up strange ?

Gareth
I understand where you're coming from

Several people have trees showing the parents of my GG grandfather but when I've asked how they made that link communication seems to stop. I've searched Record Offices for over 10 years and have circumstantial coincidences suggesting who parents were but nothing sure.
People then share this supposed information and others, seeing it come from several people, believe it is fact.

Anyone reading the Success Board & GR's advertisements would think that this is the way that family history is done!

Hi Gareth,
I recently had a message from someone who is a distant cousin, she told me she had a lot of info on our common family from a distant relitive and we were connected to a very famous family in the area, so I waited with baited breath, when all the info was added to her tree it was completly off the wall, know dates all c and she has them in a different area. it's all right up to our common relitive but before that utter rubbish, I have since done my own research at the records office and found all the links back to 1720 but have a gap back to 1628. ALWAYS DO YOU OWN RESEARCH,
It pays in the end.

Your right Gill you should do your own and if you do get information always double check it before you put it in your tree x

Gareth,
I note that you have been researching the name Newberry. Can I ask have you any information on an Edith C Newberry who married Augustus J Richardson in Dartford in JAS 1935? I am looking for descendants, who may be related to me.
