Hi, Ive just received a Birth cert for an ancestor of mine and am a bit confused about what it has written down for the mother, can anybody explain this to me.

On the birth cert it says for the mothers name:

Mary Murphy, Late Edwards, Formerly Brodrick

Im probably soundign stupid 2 everyone now and it is probably obvious, but does that indicate that she was married before?....ir so, which one wud be her maiden name?....

Confused

Broderick would be her maiden name and Edwards her previous married name.

Yes you were right, better to ask rather than trying to find the wrong maiden name.

The marriage to Murphy should be registered with surname Edwards but not bound to be lol.

There should also be one Edwards to Broderick
