Hi all
I am trying to trace my mother's side of my family tree and have got stuck just at my grandmother. The problem is that there are some discrepancies with the name of my grandmother. I am stuck here simply because the name on the wedding certificate states her name to be Cecily Farrant and her death certificate names her as Florence. We have no birth certificate and the year of birth is also contested by the certificates. Does anybody have any ideas about what I could do?
Thanks for your time! =)

when did she die as on Ancestry they give the date of birth for anyone that dies from 1984. Irene

Do you have your mother's birth cert? What is her mother's name on that?

Hi
My grandmother died in 1950. It says on my mother's certificate that her mother's name was Cecily Farrant (Farrant being my grandmother's maiden name)

The married name is Simmonds
thanks

There are 3 Florence Simmonds that died 1950 but each one shows her age at death so if I knew which one perhaps that would help. What is her father's name and occupation that would be on the wedding certificate that would help. Did she have any brothers or sisters as that may help. Irene

Hi
Her age at death was 58. The handwriting on the certificate is not easy to read but it looks like the father's name is Luther and he was a builder.

Who was the informant on the death cert?

Could Cecily have been added to her name at Baptism? Or maybe she just preferred to be know as Cecily?

Luther Farrant married Elizabeth Annie Johnson 1895.
As you can see in the census results her mother is known as Annie.
In her marriage details she uses F as her second intial so that is where the Florence comes from. Irene

Looks like Mavis has solved the mystery - although I would have expected her full name to be on the marriage cert.

Irene

Irene Report 12 Jun 2008 15:31

Looks like the family liked using seconds names
Alexander in census - Albert Alexander born 1896
May in the census born Beatrice May
Good luck with your research.Irene
