Thanks for all your advice Joan,

My grandmother never told my Mam what he got his medal for so I'm relly interested.

My Mam only told me about it a few months ago. She says she thought I knew.

I'm going to get myself organised &getmyself off to the library to see if I can find anything.

Thank you.

If you know what service he was in you can write to a department of the government that could help. I have that address and I will pm you as soon as I dig it out.

Hi I hope someone can help me please.

My mother was told as a child that one of my grandmothers brothers recieved a medal at Buckingham Palace, when he returned home to celebrate with family & friends he fell down the stairs & broke his neck & died.

Now my grandmothers family is large & can be confusing. My grandmother was born in 1905, her parents had both been married previously & had 6 sons & 9 daughters between them before my grandmother.

There is one son I know it definitely wasn't as my mother can remember him.

The boys were born from 1881 - 1894.

Does anyone know which medals were presented at the Palace & for Which war please & is there any way I can find out what he recieved his medal for once I work out which brother it was.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
